Chilean competition authorities have released the results of their investigation on the sale of the merger between dairy product companies Danone, to be bought by its rival Watt’s. The National Economic Prosecution (FNE)’s conclusion dismisses concerns over possible risks to the liquid milk market, as the resulting market concentration would not exceed the limits set by the country’s competition laws.
“According to the analysis carried out, this bureau estimates that the operation poses no coordinated or substantial unilateral risks for competition in any of the relevant markets affected by said operation” said the resolution.
Following the FNE’s closing of the file on the case, Chile’s National Federation of Dairy Producers (FEDELECHE) declared that “faced with the implications of this operations we, as a sector union, have been attentive to its repercussions and the reactions of the market for fresh milk. And we will continue to do so, with the aim of safeguarding competition in this market, as well as the interests of milk producers, without discarding any options for action, should the situation call for it. “
