The Commission on Dumping, Subsidies and Elimination of Commercial Non-Tariff Barriers (CBD) at Peru’s markets and consumer protection authority INDECOPI have launched an investigation over alleged dumping practices on the import of steel rebar from Brazil and Mexico.
Over the period analysed (January 2016 to March 2017), based on a comparison between the normal value o steel rebar and the export price to Peru, authorities have calculated a dumping margin of up to 60.4% for Brazil and 18 % for Mexico.
Regarding the threat of injury, imports of steel rebars originating in Brazil and Mexico account for more than 3% of the total volume of Peruvian imports.
INDECOPI’s investigators have found indications that allow them to infer, to a reasonable degree of confidence, a causal relationship between the alleged dumping practice and the threat of damage alleged by Aceros Arequipa, in the period ranging from January 2014 to March 2017, prompting the launch of the investigation.
