The most relevant matters of the Mexican telecommunications and broadcasting regulator, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), are presented. The IFT’s constitutional objective, mandate and its faculties are referred to; the relevance of its independence and impartiality, as well as the constitutional instruments to warranty their compliance. The relationship between the laws enacted by the Federal Congress and the regulation issued by the IFT are analyzed following the Mexican Supreme Court´s ruling in that matter. Also, reference is made to the IFT’s board, the requirements and the process to be a commissioner. Transparency and accountability are presented as well as the so called contact rules. The Investigation Authority and the Consultation Council are mentioned, to finalize with remarks in connection with the deference for the regulator by the courts.
