US: Oracle rolls out Blockchain Cloud to compete with Amazon

    At Oracle OpenWorld, an annual conference for developers, partners and customers in San Francisco, Ellison claimed that Oracle 18c, the first fully-automated database system, guarantees nearly 100% reliability and availability, with less than 30 minutes a year of downtime, according to Martketwatch.

    Amazon’s Redshift also offers near perfect reliability, although Ellison argued that 18c is better because the ecommerce giant’s figures exclude downtime for adding computing or storage capacity, planned maintenance, upgrades and patching, regional outages and software bugs.

    Ellison, who at last year’s OpenWorld conference predicted that “Amazon’s lead is over” in the so-called infrastructure as a service market, cited machine learning as the differential factor between the two products.
