Hackensack Meridian Health is among the first medical care systems anywhere in the world to take the full leap into integrating with Google Workspace and Chrome OS devices to improve the overall digital ecosystem for patient care.
The partnership will also tap Google Cloud services to deploy artificial intelligence and machine learning in clinical settings and enhance care for patients across New Jersey, according to a press release on Wednesday (Oct. 20).
The full transition to Google’s services is intended to improve data security, boost practitioner productivity and make healthcare delivery for thousands of patients more efficient.

“Hackensack Meridian Health is always looking for new and innovative ways we can utilize technology to transform the patient experience,” says Robert C. Garrett, FACHE and CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health. “Through our collaboration with Google, we are enhancing patient care and improving health outcomes.”
The hospital system tapped Google’s numerous solutions for an integrated experience that would work across clinical and operational settings. The result is a streamlined operation that facilitates tasks and interactions between the frontline, back office, administrators and patients, no matter where they are.
Hackensack Meridian Health used Chrome Enterprise over the past 12 months to help teams work remotely. The network dispatched 3,000 Chromebooks with Citrix to employees to enable a secure connection to key healthcare applications that also kept patient data protected.

Chromebooks were also used to assist doctors with remote visits, which spiked from about 8,600 in 2019 to almost 200,000 in 2020 as the pandemic gripped the world.
Garrett added that Google Chrome Enterprise will continue being used to give its team the ability to easily work and collaborate from wherever they are while also “keeping patients and team members secure.”
