The round brings the company’s total funding to $32 million, according to the release.
Vera Health’s app provides clinicians with answers based on its search of more than 60 million peer-reviewed publications, clinical guidelines, consensus statements and drug labels, per the release.
Each answer is linked to supporting research and color-coded to show the strength of available evidence. For example, an answer may be color-coded red to show that it has limitations, such as backing from only a small case series or a single-patient report, the release said.
“Medical knowledge moves too quickly for any one clinician to read, and general-purpose AI tools can make uncertain evidence sound settled,” Vera Health Co-Founder Maxime Allouch said in the release. “Unlike other tools, we believe there’s value in making uncertainty visible.”
Vera draws upon evidence from around the world, but prioritizes guidance that is locally relevant, per the release. The app is now used by more than 800,000 clinicians in 190 countries.
Vera Health Co-Founder Taieb Bennani said in the release that “the product speaks for itself, and clinicians share it with their colleagues.”
With its new funding, Vera Health will further develop its clinical evidence infrastructure, expand into additional healthcare markets and deepen its partnerships with medical societies, publishers and health systems, according to the release.
PYMNTS reported in December that health systems are actively embracing AI systems that tackle the “grunt work” before a clinician even reviews a case.
The PYMNTS Intelligence report “Financial Services Pulls Ahead in the Enterprise AI Race” found that healthcare organizations’ leading use case for AI is customer service chatbots, at 60% adoption. Other common AI use cases in the sector include workforce planning and skills gap analysis, model development and training, and model risk management, each of which is at 55% adoption.
“Healthcare is using AI where the pressure is most acute, and right now, that means anywhere it can take duties off the plates of overburdened staff,” the report said.
