Row Zero’s spreadsheet is built to allow humans and agents to work together with data, and the acquisition will add the product’s capabilities to Databricks’ AI coworker, Genie, according to the release.
This combination will add a familiar spreadsheet interface to Genie and help business teams turn data into trusted answers and actions, the release.

Row Zero’s capabilities include full compatibility with leading spreadsheets, governed integration into leading data platforms and “lightning-fast performance at scale,” per the release.
“As more finance, operations and go-to-market teams adopt Genie, incorporating a seamless spreadsheet experience is a must-have,” Patrick Wendell, co-founder and vice president of engineering at Databricks, said in the release. “We’re super excited to bring the Row Zero team to Databricks, helping us continue to evolve Genie’s capabilities to become the go-to AI coworker for every enterprise team.”
The team behind Row Zero will join Databricks to continue expanding Genie’s capabilities, and Row Zero will continue to feature support for data sources beyond Databricks, according to the release.
Row Zero Founder and CEO Breck Fresen said in the release: “Joining Databricks accelerates our vision of giving business users the spreadsheet they deserve: secure, connected, scalable and deeply integrated with AI agents.”
Databricks announced in August that it raised $5 billion in a strategic funding round at a $190 billion valuation and that the company would use the new funding to support continued development of its Genie AI coworker and other products that deliver the foundation, context, smart routing and cost controls companies need to deploy AI agents.
“The tremendous investor demand for this round shows that our AI strategy is winning the market and building what every business needs to maximize their impact with agents,” Databricks Co-Founder and CEO Ali Ghodsi said at the time in a press release.
Databricks announced in August that it was adding the team from Electric, an agent platform, and the company announced in June that it was acquiring Panther, an AI security operations center.
