Online grocery delivery startup Buymie has secured 7 million euros (about $7.3 million) to continue building out technology for its digital ordering and delivery capabilities and enhance its ability to serve customers, EU-Startups reported Monday (May 16).
The fresh capital will also be used for expansion efforts in Ireland and the U.K., with about 200 other cities possibly on tap, according to the report.
Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, and co-founded in 2016 by CEO Devan Hughes, Buymie specializes in offering fast online grocery delivery and estimated that last year it saved individuals 100,000 trips by car to markets for everyday food items, the report stated.
“This capital will allow the business to continue its focus on developing best-in-class technology while helping our retail partners transform their online and in-store capabilities to better serve their customers and unlock growth opportunities,” Hughes said, per the report.

The funding was led by Grosvenor Food & AgTech, Act Venture Capital, Sure Valley Ventures, Haatch Ventures and HBAN, according to the report.
Buymie has raised a total of 18.2 million euros (about $18.9 million) following this round, the report stated.
Users of Buymie have no limits on order size and have access to a full range of products available at local stores, according to the report. A personal shopper communicates with the user during the food shopping process to discuss substitutions and other details. Buymie can deliver on the same day and can fulfill orders in as little as one hour.
In March, Buymie started working with supermarket giant Asda.

“As we look to further expand the number of convenient delivery options we offer, we know that customers are increasingly looking for a more personalized service,” Asda Senior Vice President of eCommerce Simon Gregg said at the time.
Aside from Asda, Buymie collaborates with Dunnes Stores, Lidl and The Co-op.
