Same-day and next-day delivery startup Trunkrs raised 15 million euros (about $16 million) in a Series B funding round to elevate its position in the Benelux and accelerate the sustainability of the package delivery chain, according to a Thursday (June 9) press release.

“As a chain partner, we actively promote sustainability in our industry,” said Trunkrs Co-Founder and CEO Jan Wijn in the release, adding the investment will help the company boost its “position as market leader in our segment in the Netherlands and expand further to Belgium.”

Focusing on the eCommerce sector, Trunkrs works with companies in Benelux, the Netherlands, and Flanders. Co-founded in 2015 by Wijn and Chief Operating Officer Dimitri Balai and headquartered in the Netherlands, the startup is striving to make last-mile delivery more sustainable, the release stated.

The funding round was led by Korys with participation from VP Capital and SET Ventures, according to the release.

Korys Investment Director Brieuc de Hults said in the release that Trunkrs’ delivery solution gives small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) a way to “compete fairly and offer their customers comparable premium and sustainable delivery options to larger eCommerce platforms.”

Trunkrs is approaching sustainability by using the existing delivery vans and distribution centers in the chain as a way to keep its footprint small. The startup is also actively involved in changing its partners’ fleets over to electric, according to the release.

“With this investment, Trunkrs can further develop the electrification of parcel delivery and make significant savings on [carbon dioxide] emissions in an ever-growing eCommerce market,” said VP Capital Director Guus van Puijenbroek in the release. “In addition, our evaluation showed that Trunkrs is increasingly placing demands on partners in terms of working conditions and sustainability.”
