To let shoppers access items that were only available at Disney retail locations in the past, the Walt Disney Company and Target rolled out the Disney store at Target in 25 select locations along with complementary online experience. Customers can shop a Disney assortment of 450 items, according to an announcement.
“We’ve brought the magic of Disney to Target, bringing together great merchandise amidst an experience that’s truly immersive and unique,” Target Executive Vice president and Chief merchandising Officer Mark Tritton said in the announcement. “Guests will be able to connect with the Disney characters and stories they love in a meaningful way while accessing the latest and greatest Disney products, including items previously only available at Disney retail locations.”
The store, as well as the online experience, will also showcase recently unveiled Disney merchandise from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and “Frozen 2.” The retailer will offer over 100 exclusive products from the highly anticipated theatrical releases in addition to “The Mandalorian,” which is landing on Disney+, and “Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.”
According to the announcement, “The Disney store at Target offers a welcoming and engaging shopping experience for the entire family, with music, interactive displays, photo opportunities and a seating area where families can relax and watch Disney movie clips and play games.” Customers can wear the magic hat of Mickey, wear a prince or princess crown and pose with a light saber that is life-size.
The Disney store at Target locations are operated by Target and have a branded “shop-in-shop” layout with an average of 750 square feet — “strategically located inside Target stores adjacent to kids clothing and toys,” according to the announcement. More locations will be brought to additional Target stores over the next year, the announcement said, to “expand the Disney store retail footprint and meet Disney fans when and where they want to shop.”
The news comes as Target revealed it would launch its new Disney shop locations in 25 select Target stores back in August. Target CEO Brian Cornell and Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney parks, experiences and products, made the official announcement onstage at the D23 Expo in California.
