Walgreens, which runs over 9,000 retail locations in America, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, announced that shoppers who receive a coronavirus inoculation at the pharmacy chain will get $25 in Walgreens Cash rewards starting on Tuesday (June 22).
“COVID-19 vaccinations are widely accessible, with walk-in appointments available at all stores nationwide. Individuals can also continue to schedule appointments online, including same-day appointments, based on availability in their area, or by calling 1-800-Walgreens, with options in both English and Spanish,” Walgreens said in the announcement.
Consumers that have myWalgreens accounts will find that the Walgreens Cash rewards will be available immediately after vaccination, per the release. Consumers who don’t have myWalgreens accounts can choose a $25 Walgreens gift card after vaccination at the pharmacy chain.
Walgreens said it is offering the bonus to encourage additional people to receive a coronavirus vaccination “in support of President Biden’s National Month of Action.” To that end, 4,000 of the retailer’s locations have lengthened their pharmacy hours on Fridays this month to offer more flexibility for walk-in inoculations. Walgreens currently has more than 400 U.S. pharmacy locations that are open around the clock where people can get vaccinated “at their convenience,” according to the announcement.
The news comes as Walmart is providing shoppers with access to their health data by the way of a complimentary digital wallet where users can share their health data, starting with their COVID-19 inoculation record. The program enables individuals to keep their vaccine records in their Walmart or Sam’s Club online pharmacy account and subsequently print, share or save them to a device. All individuals over 18 who were inoculated for COVID-19 at an event sponsored by the retailer or at a Walmart/Sam’s Club pharmacy are able to access the feature.
