Membership retailer BJ’s Wholesale Club is rolling out a co-branded credit card with rewards that its members can redeem on-demand when checking out at BJ’s stores, the company announced on Wednesday (Nov. 19).
The on-demand redemption feature, which lets cardholders spend their rewards in $20 increments, is a first among wholesale-club retailers, the company said. The feature gives members “the choice to build their awards for greater savings off a bigger purchase or they can put them to use during their weekly shop,” said Laura Sen, BJ’s CEO.
BJ’s is offering two new MasterCard-branded rewards cards under the program. The BJ’s Perk Elite card has a $100 annual fee and returns 5 percent back on most purchases in and outside of BJ’s stores. The BJ’s Perks Plus card has a $50 membership fee and 3 percent rebates.
Both cards also provide 10 cents off per gallon on gas from BJ’s, 2 percent rebates on eating out and non-BJ’s gas purchases, 1 percent rebates on other non-BJ’s purchases, up to $50 in bonus rewards after the first use of the card outside BJ’s, and a $25 club membership renewal savings.
The rewards program is being run by Alliance Data Retail Services, which will handle analytics to drive cardholder engagement and create relevant offers, the company said.
