Vizient Acquires Intalere, Consolidates Supply Chain Power

Vizient has completed the purchase of Intalere from its parent company Intermountain Healthcare, which gives Vizient more power in the healthcare supply chain, according to a press release. It will also help Vizient reach more people.

Vizient’s customer base includes academic medical centers, health systems, community hospitals, rural hospitals and ambulatory care providers, the release stated. The acquisition of Intalere will give providers a more robust set of data, analytics and supply chain resources, which will help with driving efficiency and quality, along with cost performance.

It will also allow rural areas to access health services, and it will boost “provider access to leading practices, networking and knowledge-sharing with peers,” according to the release

“This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to supporting our members in their work to deliver high value care to patients by aligning cost, quality and performance,” said Vizient President and CEO Byron Jobe in the release. “We are extremely well positioned to help healthcare providers leverage their supply chain as a strategic asset as well as expand our footprint in the non-acute care market.”

Vizient will bring the Intalere brand fully under the Vizient brand identity by the end of the year, the release stated.

In other healthcare acquisition-related news, the Department of Justice is looking into the proposed acquisition of data and healthcare company Change Healthcare by UnitedHealth. That deal would unite UnitedHealth, a major player in the field of health insurance and services, with Change Healthcare, which is a major player for the data side of things.

Critics of the proposal, including the American Hospital Association, claim the deal would result in less competition and thus higher prices for patients.

The President Joe Biden administration has also vowed to look more at corporate mergers, including healthcare-related ones.
