Carrefour and Deliveroo have expanded their partnership to offer on-demand grocery delivery in France, the French retailer announced in a press release Tuesday (April 6).
The service, which touts 30-minute delivery, will initially launch this week in Paris and will expand to 10 other major French cities “in the coming months,” according to the release.
Carrefour and Deliveroo already offer grocery delivery in Belgium, where they plan to add two new cities this spring; Italy, where the companies offer delivery to 50 cities; and Spain, where they have operated delivery since the spring of 2020.
“This international partnership marks a new stage in the development of our e-commerce. It allows us to significantly expand the reach of our services at a crucial time of market acceleration,” Carrefour Group Executive Director of E-Commerce, Data and Digital Transformation Elodie Perthuisot said in the company announcement.
Deliveroo, which recently went public on the London Stock Exchange, counts on-demand grocery as one of the tech firm’s “strategic priorities,” said Ajay Lakhwani, global vice president for groceries and commercial partnerships at Deliveroo.
“This [partnership] will allow us to bring a wider choice to customers,” said Lakhwani.
Quick commerce — or q-commerce — has become expected by many customers amid the bring it to me economy, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic-induced surge in demand for delivery services slowed operations down.
“Having our Carrefour stores on the Deliveroo platform in France, Belgium, Italy and Spain also raises our profile alongside our own e-commerce services and the other partnerships we have already entered into at local level,” Perthuisot noted in the press release.
Over the summer, Carrefour also expanded its partnership with Uber Eats to bring food delivery services to France and Belgium.
