Buy now, pay later (BNPL) company Afterpay has chosen San Francisco to be the location of its new North American headquarters, according to a Wednesday (May 26) announcement emailed to PYMNTS.
Afterpay’s new North American headquarters, which is based in the 11-story landmark Phelan Building that is reminiscent of New York’s Flatiron Building, is stationed between the technology and retail centers of the Financial District and Union Square, the announcement stated.
The company will be housed in a 50,000-square-foot space throughout two floors for its more than 300 Bay Area-based staffers, according to the announcement. The office’s design and amenities will support Afterpay’s new flexible workplace approach, letting staffers work from the office, their homes, or a hybrid of both models. To that end, the office will have over 25 conference rooms, a product testing lab, a sizable space to have company-wide meetings and events, a full-service coffee bar, game area and many different open collaboration spaces.
“Afterpay’s new office and its location perfectly captures Afterpay’s business at the intersection of technology, finance, shopping and culture,” Afterpay Co-CEO and Co-Founder Nick Molnar said in the announcement. “We are so thrilled to establish our North American headquarters in this great city and welcome our employees to this beautiful space which combines the city’s rich history with a modern and flexible work environment.”
As PYMNTS previously reported, Afterpay is advertising its services in a global campaign featuring Rebel Wilson, the Australian actress renown for her role in the “Pitch Perfect” movies. The ads showcase Wilson demonstrating why people should pay for things with their own money over time in lieu of accumulating credit card debt and interest.
The Pay Better campaign made its introduction Sunday (May 23) during the Billboard Music Awards, with another spot scheduled to be broadcasted on June 7 during “The Bachelorette.”
In separate news, Afterpay will be the presenting sponsor of New York Fashion Week (NYFW): The Shows in September.
