YouTube Theater To Host In-Person Performances, Virtual Live Streams

A new 6,000 seat theater called the YouTube Theater will be built in partnership with Hollywood Park, a report from 9to5Google says.

The venue will bill itself as a new “creative oasis” for the Angelenos. It will be a three-story “intimate venue” and will provide space for as many as 6,000 guests.

The pandemic saw the closing of several YouTube Spaces, but this venue will give a new platform for the new artists coming out around the Los Angeles area.

The theater will also give a new area for things like YouTube streaming and eSports events. The interactive nature, according to 9to5Google, will be the distinguishing factor between the new space and others intended for performance.

“YouTube creators and artists are the heart of YouTube, and YouTube Theater adds to the portfolio of opportunities to drive their creativity, build their businesses, grow their communities and so much more,” said Angela Courtin, vice president of brand marketing for YouTube. And the report states that the input from creators will make the distinguishing factor between the special events for the theater and other venues.

The venue is reportedly in the same area as the southern corner of the SoFi Stadium, which is home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Some of the artists confirmed to play shows thus far include Caifanes, Los Angeles Azules, Pitbull, Black Pumas, Devo, Trippie Redd, Alejandro Sanz, Christian Nodal, Marina and Louis Tomlinson, according to the report.

YouTube has been pushing to make its platform more attractive to small businesses as it strives to make the popular video-sharing site more of a space for eCommerce, PYMNTS writes.

YouTube planned a live streaming event for customers, letting them buy products directly as the company wanted to convince small businesses to advertise and share content.

Google, which owns YouTube, wants to be more of a presence in eCommerce, which would pit it against rival Amazon.
