Perfect’s YouCam Teams With Smashbox For AI Face Analyzer

Perfect Corp., Partnership, Smashbox Cosmetics, AI Face Analyzer

Beauty technology startup Perfect, developer of the YouCam Makeup app, is further collaborating with Smashbox Cosmetics to create a face analyzer powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

The collaboration will combine YouCam’s technology with Smashbox’s Shape Matters personalization methodology, which is the result of research and analysis of various eye shapes, according to a press release on Tuesday (June 29).

The combined technology will create the Smashbox Eye Genie in the YouCam Makeup App. Perfect Corp.’s AI technology uses 3D face mesh to pinpoint individual facial attributes like eye shape and eyebrows.

Alice Chang, Perfect Corp. CEO and founder, said that the company is looking forward to furthering its collaboration with “one of makeup’s most iconic brands” as the way to introduce Perfect’s “advanced smart beauty technology” to help bring about deeper shopper engagement.

“We’re seeing the power of AI and AR [augmented reality] at work as the makeup and beauty shopping experience continues to evolve,” Chang added.

The companies consider their partnership as an important step in the evolution of retail technology, according to the press release, because it offers a solution to bringing offline benefits to the digital world by tapping AI and augmented reality (AR).

“Perfect Corp.’s AI technologies help us build on strong digital connections with consumers, despite the physical divide,” said Tatiana Sana, Global Brand Technologies at Estée Lauder Companies. “Smashbox always had a sweet spot for eyes and had conducted extensive research over the years to support their Shape Matters Methodology.”

Sana added that the methodology combined with YouCam’s AI capabilities will make it easy for users to create a variety of eye makeup looks and get recommendations “best fitted for your eye shape to enhance your natural features.”

In an interview with PYMNTS last week, Chang said that AR technology is solving the challenge beauty shoppers have of determining how a product will look on their own face as opposed to a celebrity or model.
