Streaming behemoth Netflix announced Friday (Oct. 15) it’s joining forces with Starbucks and some of the world’s most prolific and popular book writers on the Netflix Book Club.
This means fans of “Bridgerton,” “The Queen’s Gambit” and the “To All The Boys” franchise, among many others, can join with millions of other fans in reading the stories they watched come alive on their TVs and mobile devices.
The Netflix Book Club will allow viewers to connect more with their favorite movies and shows. The series “But Have You Read The Book?” debuts Nov. 16 around the world on the Still Watching Netflix YouTube channel and Netflix’s U.S. Facebook channel.
“Orange Is The New Black” star Uzo Aduba, who was in one of the Netflix series adapted from a book, will roll out the Netflix Book Club selections each month with a Starbucks beverage in hand. She’ll also host a series of conversations with cast members, creators and authors about adapting books for the streaming service.
“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked friends, ‘But have you read the book?’ so I’m excited to host Netflix Book Club and bring together loyal book fans, TV and movie obsessives, and the creators behind their favorite stories,” said Aduba, a three-time Emmy winner. “I can’t wait to dive deep into the creative process and what it takes to bring a book to life.”
Netflix Book Club’s first selection is Nella Larsen’s 1929 novel “Passing,” which will debut in film version on Netflix on Nov. 10. It follows the story of two Black women who can pass as white and choose to live on opposite sides of the color line in New York during the 1920s Harlem Renaissance era.
“Netflix loves bringing books to life on screen and creating conversation with passionate readers and fans,” said Bozoma Saint John, the chief marketing officer at Netflix, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to partner with Starbucks and excited that the incredible Uzo Aduba will be our host to discuss favorite books and what goes into the writing, developing, casting, and creating of our beloved series and films.”
