Diamond Bank is the first to bring fingerprint recognition to Africa.
The Nigerian-based company has introduced a Touch ID feature on its Diamond Mobile App that allows iOS users to log into their accounts via fingerprint recognition.
Announcing the new component, Diamond’s Divisional Head of Corporate Communications Ayona Trimnell stated that it will free customers from the hassle of having to remember (or forgetting) their user IDs and passwords whenever they carry out their banking transactions.
“We are pleased to announce the launch of the Touch ID feature on the Diamond Mobile App,” said Trimnell. “This means that Diamond Mobile App users that have iOS devices can now login to their accounts with just their fingerprints as an alternative to entering a User ID and Password.”
She went on to say that with the “introduction of this innovative solution to the Nigerian banking space, Diamond Bank once again demonstrates its commitment to be at the forefront in offering technological solutions that make banking an exciting, convenient and secure experience for our customers.”
Diamond Mobile’s Touch ID feature is currently available on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 plus, iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3. Additional features of the application include funds transfer, bills payment, events ticket purchase, movie tickets purchase, online shopping wallet top-up, as well as the ability to search for, book and pay for airline tickets. The Diamond Mobile App is currently available on Apple Store and — according to the press release on the Touch ID announcement — it will soon be available on all other app stores.
