Amazon Debuts Mac-Focused Prime App

Amazon Debuts Mac Prime Video App

Amazon has launched a new Mac-native Prime Video app on the Mac App Store, allowing Prime users to directly purchase films and TV shows, Apple Insider reported Monday (Nov. 15).

Although Amazon already has a Prime Video app for iOS and tvOS, this new version is specifically for Apple computers running macOS Big Sur or later.

Users can sign up or log in to Amazon Prime directly through the app, rather than having to subscribe through the normal Apple in-app purchases, and can directly buy films and TV shows from there.

The report says existing Prime members who already have credit cards linked to their account won’t have to re-enter their payment information to make these purchases.

According to Amazon, multiple live sports, including Thursday Night Football and the English Premiere League, will be available through the platform. Users can also resume playback from their Mac, Apple TV or iOS device at any time.

In other Amazon news, PYMNTS reports that the company is debuting a new Prime tool to help alleviate holiday gift-giving for the upcoming season. This new solution is intended to fight off the friction of users not knowing where to send their gifts.

Amazon’s new solution lets customers send gifts to friends and family via email or phone numbers, with the recipient adding their preferred delivery address or allowing to exchange the item for a gift card — which wouldn’t notify the original giver.

This will help the problem of a gift-giver not knowing a recipient’s address, which the giver may not want to ask so as to not spoil the surprise.

The feature is similar to Loop Commerce’s software, which gives a GiftNow button on every product page allowing digital sending of items.

However, PYMNTS writes that Amazon’s new tool could catch on with a wider audience, as GiftNow’s is only used by a handful of brands.
