Several Hyatt locations in the U.S. are now integrating hotel room keys with Apple Wallet so people can unlock their guest rooms by tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch, Hyatt said in a press release on Wednesday (Dec. 8).
The first six participating U.S. locations include Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa, Hyatt House Chicago/West Loop-Fulton Market, Hyatt House Dallas/Richardson, Hyatt Place Fremont/Silicon Valley and Hyatt Regency Long Beach.
Hyatt is the first hotel brand to integrate room keys in the Apple wallet. Guests can use their iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock their room as well as key card-protected common areas like gyms, pools, and elevators. No app is needed.

“Like everything we do at Hyatt, our approach to technology always includes listening to our guests and members. We heard that they want access to be near-instantaneous. Room keys in Apple Wallet is an easy, convenient and secure room key option for our guests when they travel,” Hyatt Senior Vice President and Global Head of Digital and Technology Julia Vander Ploeg said in the release.
Vander Ploeg added that the integration with Apple Wallet is a “game-changing digital experience” that will advance change.
“Many consumer technologies evolve through a ‘tipping point’ that drives a change in adoption. We believe our collaboration with Apple on this new approach to room keys in Apple Wallet can be exactly that,” she said.

Following the trial run at the six properties, the technology is expected to be launched across Hyatt’s global portfolio. Hyatt also offers a digital key in the World of Hyatt mobile app.
ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions door locks and its Vostio Access Management cloud-based solution supports Hyatt room keys in Apple Wallet. Vostio provides the digital key information that is securely delivered to guests’ iPhones and Apple Watches, per the release.
