Some of Revolut’s Online Payments Impacted by a Service Outage Now Fixed

Customers of Revolut were inconvenienced by a partial outage of services, leaving them unable to complete online payments for a while on Sunday, Dec. 26, the Irish Times writes.

There wasn’t complete information on how many of the FinTech’s customers were affected by the issue.

Revolut’s status update page said the issue was first revealed at 1:09 a.m. on Sunday, but had been fixed by the early afternoon. It had also been limited to Visa payments, not affecting the Mastercard transactions.

According to Revolut, engineers had been working on the issue. They apologized for the inconvenience but didn’t initially have a time when the issue would be fixed.

Revolut has 1.2 million customers in Ireland. The company said it’s likely to surpass 2 million, given its current growth rate.

The company had another issue earlier this month where customers weren’t able to make use of their phones.

But Revolut has remained confident.

“One in three Irish adults now has a Revolut account, and on Black Friday alone we had more than 400,000 people in Ireland shopping via Revolut,” co-founder and chief executive Nikolay Storonsky said.

PYMNTS reported earlier this month that Revolut had gotten access to a full banking license from the European Central Bank, according to the Bank of Lithuania. The bank will now be able to issue consumer credit and other services. It will also be able to give shelter to Revolut’s European customers under the deposit guarantee scheme.

Prior to that announcement, Revolut Bank had been working in the European Economic Area (EEA), with a specialized license. It then proceeded to debut new banking services in May 2020. Those went on to offer limited services like accepting deposits and offering credit services in Poland and its European base of Lithuania.

It’s since begun offering services in over 15 other European countries.
