eCommerce software platform BigCommerce has acquired B2B Ninja, a company that provides merchants with B2B eCommerce capabilities.
“A longtime BigCommerce partner, B2B Ninja is a best-in-class quoting solution, and the acquisition furthers BigCommerce’s ability to deliver powerful eCommerce functionality to B2B merchants,” the company said in a news release Thursday (Feb. 10).
The company cites figures from Forrester that project B2B eCommerce transactions in the U.S. reaching $18 trillion by next year, or 17% of all B2B sales in the country. BigCommerce says its own research found quoting is one of the most important features in online B2B commerce, whether the business is just moving online or processing millions of dollars in GMV.
BigCommerce helps companies build online stores, something that businesses have capitalized on since the start of the pandemic. The company works with startups and small- to medium-sized companies to help them incorporate tools to improve online sales.
“For several years, our companies have been great partners not only because our products complement each other but our values do too,” said John McCann, co-founder of B2B Ninja. “We both believe strongly in openness, flexibility and ease-of-use so that merchants can focus on growing their businesses. We’re excited to join the BigCommerce family and work even more closely to deliver critical products for merchants.”

B2B Ninja is available to any BigCommerce merchant on any plan. The company says it is ideal for merchants who don’t require all the functionality of B2B Edition but still want “next-level quoting functionality, or for complex use cases that require extended quoting capabilities.”
BigCommerce says it will still offer B2B Edition, an advanced suite of B2B functionalities through the exclusive partner integration of BundleB2B with BigCommerce Enterprise, to help merchants carry out online operations and give customers seamless transactions and convenient self-service account capabilities.
Last year, BigCommerce paid $145 million to acquire Feedonomics to help it better manage clients ad data. The company also launched a collaboration with Latin American eCommerce company Mercado Libre to permit BigCommerce merchants to sell in Latin America, which has experienced an eCommerce market boom.
