Telefonica has reached a significant milestone in its machine-to-machine facilitation, the company announced Tuesday (March 17). According to the Spanish telco conglomerate, Telefonica’s M2M connections now reach more than 500 companies around the globe thanks to the company’s Smart M2M solution.
The service, part of Telefonica Business Solutions, aims to facilitate B2B communication through improving and increasing the connections of businesses through mobile devices. The announcement of reaching 500 enterprises coincided with news that Telefonica has also upgraded its M2M service by offering real-time monitoring, global tracking, supervision, communication guidelines and more customizable aspects of the service.
Some of the Smart M2M solution’s highest-profile clients include MasterCard and Brazilian energy distributor Light. According to reports, Light’s Management and Control Department commended Smart for its ability to automate business operations. At present, the service is available for corporations in Peru, Brazil, Spain, Chile, Argentina, Germany and Mexico.
The development of M2M solutions has emerged as vital to the expansion of B2B operations around the globe. Some innovators have focused on emerging markets to bring their M2M solutions to small businesses. Communications technology firm Ericsson, for example, revealed just weeks ago that it plans to release its own M2M solution in Indonesia to expand B2B operations. Its service targets B2B procurement, payment and everyday logistics.
The rise of M2M services also parallels the rise of Big Data thanks to the globalization of business operations, the use of the Internet to facilitate those operations, and the need for businesses to obtain and analyze the data flowing in through their mobile devices.
