Electric vehicle (EV) subscription company Autonomy has partnered with Protection-as-a-Service company DigiSure to offer embedded insurance for car subscriptions.
By partnering with DigiSure to enter the insurance category, as it plans to do with the launch of its insurance offering in mid-August, Autonomy will be able to digitally onboard, evaluate and qualify subscribers for auto coverage, the companies said in a Thursday (Aug. 4) press release.
“Being able to provide Autonomy subscribers with fully digital auto coverage that’s month to month, without them having to buy annual insurance, and is tailored to their needs is core to delivering on our promise of providing easy and affordable access to electric vehicles,” said Autonomy Founder and CEO Scott Painter in the release.
Autonomy offers subscriptions to Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles and will soon add other models and brands of EVs. Autonomy customers can subscribe month to month after a three-month minimum hold period, and they can subscribe entirely in the app, according to the release.
“We are excited to collaborate with Autonomy to embed auto insurance and protection products seamlessly into their offering for subscribers,” said
DigiSure CEO and Co-Founder Mike Shim said in the release that Autonomy’s subscription service is a new way to own EVs, and “that requires a new kind of insurance experience as well.”
In July, Autonomy formed a partnership with AutoNation such that the automotive retailer will support Autonomy’s plans to acquire up to 20,000 EVs and provide vehicle preparation and delivery in connection with Autonomy customer activations, along with maintenance, repair and reconditioning.

Painter said at the time that the deal paves the way for a national expansion, with Autonomy hoping to complete its 20,000-vehicle order in the next 12 to 18 months.
“Just as importantly, this also allows Autonomy to remain capital efficient and infrastructure light as we advance our mission to accelerate the adoption of EVs and scale subscriptions profitably,” Painter said.
