Amsterdam-based payment technology company Adyen will act as a payment services partner for grocery aggregator firm Instacart, the FinTech announced on Thursday (Nov. 10).
As part of the new partnership, Instacart will leverage various aspects of the Adyen payment platform, including PIN-free debit payments, per a press release.
“Working with Instacart on debit enablement and U.S. processing is the first step in what will be an exciting partnership […] We look forward to working closely with Instacart on future payment capabilities as the company continues to expand,” Brian Dammeir, president of North America at Adyen, said.
Heather Rivera, vice president of strategy, corporate development and partnerships for Instacart, said the partnership would help the grocery delivery company to grow.
“We’re pleased to welcome Adyen as an additional payments partner that will enable us to continue to scale and ensure our customers have a seamless experience all the way through checkout,” Rivera said.
With the capacity to process a range of online and in-person payment methods, Adyen will help enable what Instacart is calling ‘Connected Stores’ — “a bundle of new and existing Instacart Platform technologies that will help grocers build a unified, seamless, personalized experience both online and in-store.”
The concept is part of the firm’s push to introduce new technologies to make the grocery shopping experience more frictionless. To do so, Instacart has developed solutions such as a computer vision-powered shopping cart, which is equipped with scales, sensors and touchscreens, as well as ‘Scan & Pay’ technology, which lets shoppers scan items as they shop and pay for them with their mobile phone.
