NCR launched a new commerce hub, Retail ONE, which aims to help retailers thrive in an increasingly competitive market by utilizing omnichannel solutions and the Internet of Things to their advantage, the company announced yesterday (June 24) at the NCR Synergy event in Orlando, Florida.
NCR Retail ONE will create an open ecosystem of applications retailers can mix and match to suit the needs of their business and customers. The applications will range from point-of-sale (POS) to mobile – all developed by NCR, its partners and third parties.
“To remain competitive and deliver a frictionless shopping experience for consumers, retailers must embrace omnichannel today and prepare their businesses to capitalize on a future based on the Internet of Things and Big Data,” Eli Rosner, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Product Management at NCR Retail Solutions, said in a company release. “NCR’s vision, the technology we have unveiled at NCR Synergy and our relationships with the most influential retail technology innovators will enable retailers to achieve this faster and gain an important competitive advantage.”
The system itself resides on an onmichannel platform, implementing cloud and on-premise software, and at times a hybrid of the two. Retailers using NCR Retail ONE will have access to digital capabilities promoting openness and flexibility.
“Modern retailing requires a flexible platform that allows retailers to serve customers across channels and devices. NCR’s Retail ONE platform is an exciting solution that addresses a retailer’s need to deploy seamless omnichannel capability today, while being extensible to meet the unpredictable innovations of tomorrow by leveraging the cloud and the Internet of Things,” Microsoft’s WW Retail Industry Managing Director Brendan O’Meara commented.
“Microsoft is thrilled that NCR chose the Microsoft Azure hybrid cloud platform for Retail ONE. The combination enables capability, flexibility and scale at an unprecedented level thanks to a worldwide network of Microsoft-managed datacenters across 19 regions and a growing collection of integrated services,” O’Meara added.
Through its commerce hub, NCR hopes to provide retailers with the necessary tools to accelerate speed to market and innovation, leverage existing assets in an effective manner and enable a shift from a store-centric experience to a consumer-centric experience.
“Cisco and NCR’s vision brings a whole offer together with validated, secure solutions and optimization services. Our focus centers on the customer and transforming today’s retail experience into tomorrow’s guest experience,” Todd Meister, Vice President of software & solutions innovation at Cisco, explained. “Our solution delivers omnichannel features and retail analytical insights that enable a positive customer experience and enriched loyalty.”
