The Internal Revenue Service’s longest tenured service provider, global electronic payment and banking solutions provider ACI Worldwide announced yesterday (July 27) the extension of the agency’s partnership with its OfficialPayments.com portal.

The site provides online bill payment services and had processed approximately $14 billion in IRS payments over the last 15 years.

“We are very excited to continue our relationship with the IRS; this marks the third consecutive time that the IRS has awarded us a five-year RFP, which validates the flexibility, scalability and overall power of OfficialPayments.com,” Carolyn Homberger, ACI Worldwide group president, said in a company release. “Taxpayers have utilized our bill payment solution for more than 20 years because it’s quick, easy, reliable and, above all else, secure.”

The online service allows users to view, manage and pay taxes from the federal, state and local levels. The site will seek to continue providing convenient options to users as the number of people turning to online and mobile platforms for paying bills continues to rise, ACI Worldwide said.

According to the company’s statement, more than 75 percent of electronic payments made via OfficialPayments.com take place either online or through a mobile browser. This number reveals a more than 600 percent increase in the number of IRS payments made on mobile devices, ACI Worldwide confirmed.

Through OfficialPayments.com, users are able to make bill payments to the IRS, 23 state governments, the District of Columbia, more than 3,000 local municipalities and counties across all 50 states, 450 utility companies, and 350 colleges and universities.

ACI’s website enables consumers to process payments for all levels of government property taxes (federal, state and local), utility bills and college tuition using various payment methods, such as credit cards, debit cards, electronic checks and alternative payment methods via mobile, online, telephone, point-of-sale and other channels.
