Expedia Group has unveiled a new loyalty program that rewards travel and hospitality business across the company’s portfolio.
This single loyalty program called One Key unifies the travel brands Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo into one rewards program, allowing travelers to earn and use rewards more easily than ever before, the company said in a Monday (July 17) press release.
“We’ve significantly increased the pace of innovation at Expedia Group over the past few years, allowing us to push the boundaries in tech, loyalty and service,” Peter Kern, vice chairman and CEO of Expedia Group, said in the release. “From our industry-leading advancements in AI [artificial intelligence] and machine learning to our flexible new loyalty program, One Key, no company is doing more to put the traveler experience front and center in everything we do.”
One Key, which is now live in the U.S., will begin rolling out globally in 2024, according to the press release. Furthermore, Expedia’s combined loyalty programs have more than 168 million members and have provided over $10 billion in travel savings.
One Key has a single rewards currency called OneKeyCash that can be used on future bookings along with other savings and perks within Expedia Group’s marketplace of eligible flights, hotels, vacation homes, car rentals, cruises and activities, the release said.
“We designed One Key to reward every traveler — the road warriors, the frequent flyers, and the 83% of travelers who only take a few trips a year and never really benefit from other loyalty programs,” Jon Gieselman, president of Expedia Brands, said in the release. “By bringing together our three biggest travel brands into one program, travelers can easily earn rewards across our family of brands.”
The launch of this program follows some other recent additions made by Expedia Group.
In May, the firm partnered with Mastercard to launch a new Travel with Rewards program that lets Mastercard cardholders redeem their points for travel bookings powered by Expedia.
A month earlier, in April, Expedia launched an “in-app travel experience” powered by ChatGPT, OpenAI‘s generative AI tool. With this tool, Expedia members can start an open-ended conversation in the app and get recommendations on places to visit and how to do so.
