JCB and Stripe Expand Partnership to Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong

JCB International and Stripe have expanded their partnership to Europe, Singapore and Hong Kong.

As part of this expansion, Stripe added JCB to its default payment scheme for merchants in the United Kingdom and Ireland in August and for merchants in other European countries, Singapore and Hong Kong in October, the companies said in a Wednesday (Nov. 1) press release emailed to PYMNTS.

The companies already have collaborations in Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, according to the release.

With the addition of the new markets, JCB, which is a major global payment brand and a leading credit card issuer and acquirer in Japan, has grown its acceptance network, the release said.

“Stripe’s global presence and innovative technological solutions make them an ideal choice for eCommerce merchants who value secure and fast transactions,” JCB International President and CEO Yoshiki Kaneko said in the release. “Through this partnership, we believe we can offer an additional and valuable payment option to our cardmembers.”

The expanded partnership also allows eCommerce merchants using Stripe’s financial infrastructure platform to tap into the spending power of JCB’s 154 million cardmembers, per the release.

“With today’s updates, JCB and Stripe are making it easier than ever for global businesses to sell to customers in Japan and across Asia,” Stripe Global Head of Partnerships Jeanne DeWitt Grosser said in the release. “We’re excited that our longstanding partnership with JCB continues to deliver new, tangible benefits to internet businesses and JCB cardholders alike.”

In an earlier partnership, JCB International announced in April that it has formed a multiregional collaboration with Fiserv, which provides payments and financial services technology solutions globally and enables card acceptance for tens of thousands of merchants in Europe. That collaboration allows JCB cards to be accepted by merchants in the U.K., Germany and Poland.

In a recent development at Stripe, the payment processor teamed up with blockchain and Web3 platform Curios on Oct. 11. In that partnership, Curios has integrated with Stripe, enabling Curios to offer a streamlined and secure payment process for buyers and sellers on its creator marketplace and ecosystem.
