MasterCard is looking to bridge the gap between startups and the global opportunities they seek with the launch of its Start Path Global program.
The company announced the launch of the six-month partnership program for startups today, extending Start Path’s footprint across more global regions like Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Canada and Latin America.
Over the past 18 months the program has focused on promoting operational support, partnership or investment to more than 40 commerce-related startups, but with today’s announcement those services will be scaled on a larger global level.
“Start Path thoughtfully connects the right partners with the right startups to build the future of commerce together,” Stephane Wyper, Global Lead of MasterCard Start Path, said in a company release. “And now with our global expansion, we will be able to target a broader range of startups and help them achieve success.”
Startups must apply in order to be considered to be a part of the program, but upon acceptance will gain access to more than 60 MasterCard experts as well as a group of more than 20 leading companies across the banking, retail, and technology sectors, including TSYS, Santander InnoVentures, Target and Rakuten.
According to MasterCard, this unprecedented access to resources will open the doors to pilot opportunities with the company or its customers while also providing startups with a first look at unique technologies and a direct line to leading corporations in the market.

“Working with MasterCard Start Path introduces us to disruptive, early stage companies that may have the answers to overcoming the critical pain points facing global commerce,” Mariano Belinky, Managing Partner at Santander InnoVentures, added. “Businesses graduating from the Start Path program should all be well-prepared, proven, and ready to go to market. These are just the types of ambitious startup businesses we’d like to meet.”
MasterCard will bring a new class of startups on board the Start Path Global program each quarter to start the six-month virtual partnership. The application window to join the next class is open until Sept. 18.
