Oberthur Technologies has entered into a licensing agreement with fingerprint software provider Precise Biometrics.
The agreement will integrate Precise BioMatch Embedded, a leading fingerprint recognition solution, with OT’s multi-application embedded secure element (eSE), PEARL. The solution is designed to provide an additional layer of security to mobile, M2M and IoT devices via biometric authentication.
With Precise Biometrics, OT will be able to support fingerprint identification across any device for connection, authentication and payments.
“The rapid growth of mobile payments is increasing the demand for secure mobile authentication. Our industry-leading capabilities in providing high-performance fingerprint solutions for platforms with limited processing power and memory enables new use cases where convenient and secure authentication is needed. The cooperation with OT is a big step in taking such solutions to market and securing users’ digital identity,” Håkan Persson, CEO of Precise Biometrics, explained in a press release.
By incorporating fingerprint-matching algorithms, OT’s eSE will be able to run fingerprint verification within the eSE and prevent exposing users’ biometrics outside of the solution.
Marc Bertin, CTO of OT, said:
“While the use of biometric data today appears as the most efficient way to authenticate users, it also raises new security challenges. It is therefore critical to combine the most advanced technologies to protect users’ biometrics. The partnership with Precise Biometrics allows us to further increase security in mobile, M2M and IoT devices by integrating the industry’s leading fingerprint recognition software in our PEARL by OT offering.”
According to the release, the licensing agreement will produce royalty revenue based on OT’s sale of its eSE.
