Apple iOS 10 has been available only for a couple of days, but it’s driving interest from owners of Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices.
That’s according to a report that cited Mixpanel, an analytics company, as saying Apple’s iOS 10 is running on 19.9 percent of all iOS devices. Mixpanel said it has generated the findings based on more than 183 billion records on devices around the globe. IOS 9, which Apple unveiled last year, had been installed on more than 90 percent of iOS devices but is now on 75 percent of the Apple products that are currently being used.
According to the report, the adoption rate of iOS 10 showcases how well Apple does in getting customers to download its latest OS. That’s particularly important, according to the report, because the sooner users move to a newer OS, the sooner Apple can focus less on supporting out-of-date versions of its software and apps. It also enables app developers to focus more time and resources to Apple’s latest OS.
The report went on to note that, while iOS 10 doesn’t have a huge amount of upgrades compared to previous operating systems, it did improve iMessage, enabling users to add stickers to messages and get information about a link they received without having to open it. IOS 10 also comes with a revamped Music app, third-party support for Siri and support for Apple Pay in the Safari browser. The report on strong adoption rates for iOS 10 comes at a time when Apple is enjoying a surge in its stock price on the heels of the launch of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. While some bemoaned the absence of the headphone jack, all four of the carriers have been talking about strong numbers of pre-orders for the devices. For T-Mobile, the iPhone 7 launch was record-breaking in terms of pre-orders.
