Mandiant Hired To Probe Sabre Hotel Systems Breach

Sabre Corp. confirmed Tuesday that it has seen a breach in it hospitality units hotel reservation system and that FireEye’s Mandiant forensics division has been retained to investigate just how that breach happened.

“The unauthorized access has been shut off and there is no evidence of continued unauthorized activity,” Sabre noted in a release. Saber also confirms that it has contacted law enforcement about the breach in its SynXis Central Reservations, which offers booking services for hotels and airlines.

“32,000 properties use Sabre’s reservation system, so the attackers were able to penetrate a single system and potentially access 32,000 additional targets,” said Jeff Hill, Director of Product Management at Prevalent, which manages third-party risk.

Sabre, at this point, believes only this system was compromised.

Hotel groups have lately been a favored target of hacking groups — InterContinental Hotels Group saw 1,200 of its franchised hotels in the United States hacked over a three month period. Hyatt Hotels Corp, Hilton, and Starwood Hotels — all currently the property of Marriott International — have also recently seen their systems hacked.
