PayPal users have a new place to use their mobile wallet — well, PayPal users in Mexico and Canada, anyway.
PayPal and Apple have jointly announced that PayPal is now in the iTunes, App Store or Apple Music payments menu for transactions made on an iPhone, iPad or iPod. The feature is also reportedly going to be available soon in the U.S., though no specific data or time frame on that roll out has been released.
Users who want to enable the PayPal feature need only to add PayPal as their payment choice under their Apple account settings. Setting PayPal as the default option will make it the go-to payment method instead of whichever credit or debit card the user already has on file. PayPal will also work as the default payment option for purchases made through Apple TV or Apple Watch.
According to reports, PayPal OneTouch mobile features will also be on offer for those devices — meaning transactions could be made through the Apple TV or Apple Watch with just a fingerprint.
“This provides a secure and versatile payment method to meet the growing demand for digital entertainment,” said Bill Ready, PayPal COO, in a blog post announcing the pair-up. “PayPal’s availability across Apple’s services further expands our vision of providing customers a variety of ways to easily make mobile purchases, such as asking Siri to make a payment using the PayPal app.”
