An investigative team was able to use mobile phones to lift card numbers, expiration dates, and accountholder names from Barclays’ “contactless” Visa cards late last week.
That data was then used to buy “multiple goods online,” according to a published report from The Telegraph.
The Telegraph says Barclays may face fines for potentially exposing roughly 13 million Visa cardholders to fraud. A spokesman for Barclays said the company “firmly believe that [contactless] continues to be a safe and viable payment system.”
