First Data Introduces Contactless Ticket Machines In Poland

First Data has introduced the first ticketing machines in Poland to accept contactless payments on public transportation, according to finextra.com. The news source reports that at the end of July, 112 such machines had been installed in buses and trains all throughout Warsaw, and this number is projected to increase to 580 by the end of the year.

According to Leszek Ruta, director of Warsaw Transport Authority, the new machines are helping sales improve and also improving the efficiency of sales especially during rush hours. Also, “Contactless payments continue to grow rapidly in Poland,” states Janusz Diemko, MD of First Data business in Poland.

Contactless enabled ticket machines first introduced in Warsaw during the Euro 2012. This helped ease the impact of the rush of soccer fans on public transportation. First Data has also introduced in May 2012, contactless payment functionalities in parking meters in cooperation with Polish transportation authorities.
