Taiwan’s largest telecommunications company Chunghwa Telecom has announced a move into the mobile wallet space. NFC World reports the company plans to test what it calls “an all-in-one digital wallet that lets customers choose which way they want to pay,” whether that means using a coupon, loyalty card or credit card.
Supporting both NFC and QR code functionalities, the digital wallet service will allow users to make in-store purchases and pay transport fares directly through an app.
The company says the offering will work on any phone. The launch comes months after an announcement in January that the government would support a national NFC network where the country’s largest providers could compete openly.
