Credit-reporting agency Equifax announced a family-friendly initiative to recover data of 147.9 million Americans following the largest personal data breach in history. Equifax is inviting those 147.9 million to join a nationwide Easter Egg Hunt as part of its data-recovery effort.
“If you or a loved one was affected by the data breach, we invite you to spend a bit of springtime fun in the sun searching your local neighborhood for our Equifax Easter Eggs,” Zeke N. Yeshallfind, a spokesperson for the company, told PYMNTS. “We’ve included USB drives with the stolen data in the eggs.”
Yeshallfind noted, however, that the data found in the eggs could belong to anyone. “That’s just part of the fun, too,” he said. “Find someone else’s data on your hunt!”
He added that eggs can be found in any public space across the country.
“These eggs — and your data — could be anywhere!” added Yeshallfind, noting that the event is slated to be the nation’s largest-ever Easter Egg Hunt.
The egg hunt is Equifax’s latest effort to regain public support and trust following the data breach that shocked the nation, and initiated multiple lawsuits and federal investigations.
The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Easter Sunday, Equifax said. Participants must provide their full name, address, bank account number and Social Security Number to sign up for the event.
