Shopify announced it has launched a new retail hardware collection to improve in-person shopping for some of the world’s fastest-growing brands and their customers.
“We’ve helped merchants successfully build and grow their online stores for 14 years, and now we’re the best partner to help entrepreneurs capitalize on the huge opportunity of in-person selling,” Craig Miller, chief product officer for Shopify, said in a press release. “Digitally native brands want to build loyal audiences through retail locations, and we’ve designed the best products to help them achieve this success.”
The new offerings include Shopify’s Tap & Chip Reader, which combines all payment needs in a sleek new design. In-store shoppers can choose how they pay, quickly and securely, either with a payment-enabled phone or a debit or credit card. With millions of contactless cards being issued to customers this year, the Reader enables merchants to prepare for the shift to tap-enabled payments.
The Tap & Chip Reader also easily connects to Shopify POS, which offers multi-channel inventory management, secure payments and a consolidated backend that connects directly with a merchant’s online store.
In addition, Shopify is launching two new accessories to improve the retail countertop experience for merchants and customers. The Tap & Chip Reader Dock is designed to hold and charge the Reader, keeping the checkout area clear. Merchants can either connect the Reader with the Dock for a traditional countertop checkout, or easily detach it to help customers throughout the store. Shopify’s Retail Stand works in the same manner; it can stay on the counter next to the Reader Dock or can be easily undocked and taken around the store.
A leading multi-channel commerce platform, Shopify currently powers more than 800,000 businesses in approximately 175 countries. The company works with brands including Unilever, Kylie Cosmetics, Allbirds, MVMT and more.
