Uber Freight Adds On-Demand Logistics To SAP

SAP and Uber Freight are teaming up to provide joint customers with on-demand logistics solutions, the companies said in a press release on Monday (April 29).

Enterprise cloud company SAP is integrating Uber Freight into its SAP Logistics Business Network platform, enabling users to access rates from Uber’s carrier network from within the SAP portal. SAP’s Logistics Business Network enables companies to manage their shipping and logistics needs by connecting shippers, freight forwarders, carriers and other players for seamless information and data sharing. Adding Uber Freight to the platform means shippers will be able to choose from a wider carrier base while obtaining real-time pricing. Carriers and drivers, meanwhile, can access and choose loads that work best with their needs and schedules.

The companies added that this “networked approach” can reduce costs and minimize unloaded mileage.

“Finding and booking freight can be the most expensive and often most complex piece of the supply chain,” said SAP Digital Supply Chain President Hala Zeine in a statement. “This combined solution will remove roadblocks and offers a simpler, more automated approach that streamlines operations, delivers tangible cost savings and ultimately creates a better customer experience.

“Adding Uber Freight to our SAP Logistics Business Network will help our customers optimize their logistics and put their customers at the heart of their digital supply chain,” she added.

In another statement, Uber Freight Senior Director Bill Driegert said the collaboration will “bring shippers and carriers together at the level where freight decisions are being made.” He added that “this innovative, tech-forward approach to freight means shippers can spend less time sourcing quotes and capacity and more time getting goods to market.”
