Apple’s online sales jumped 24 percent last year.
Apple has surpassed Staples and claimed the number-two spot for online retail sites, according to a report by Internet Retailer . Apple’s sales jumped 24 percent last year by making $18.3 billion in online sales.
Staples sales, on the other hand, only rose about 1 percent to $10.4 billion. This was matched by similarly sluggish performance in its retail sector, Office Depot online sales grew by 1 percent to $4.1 billion and while Office Max saw its online sales remain flat at $3.2 billion
Amazon retained its first place position solidly and sold $67.8 billion in electronics, media and other products, out-earning its next ten rivals combined, reports The Wall Street Journal. Yet even Amazon was not invincible, and for the first time in a decade saw the pace of Walmart’s online sales operation outstrip its own, growing at 3o percent to $10 billion last year, as opposed to Amazon’s 20 percent growth during the same time period.
Wholesale club Costco also enjoyed a milestone–it made its first top 15 appearance.
