Commercial payments company WEX is broadening its virtual payments offering through a collaboration with Visa and separately announced the broadened acceptance of its mobile payment technology at Shell locations.
In a press release issued Wednesday (July 10), WEX said it can now issue Visa virtual commercial cards for its corporate customers in the U.S., Canada and Europe, an expansion of their existing collaboration announced last year, to digitize commercial payments.
The cards can be issued in USD, GBP and euro, and WEX plans to add support for additional currencies moving forward. The virtual card solution supports payments security while providing users with greater control over how and with whom payments are authorized, while also connecting managers to payment data for streamlined reconciliation and spend analytics.
“WEX operates with our customers’ long-term best interests in mind and always looks for new ways to improve our payment innovations,” said WEX Corporate Payments President Jay Dearborn in a statement. “This evolution in our relationship with Visa allows WEX greater independence in decisions around the services that we offer and the opportunity for our customers to take full advantage of the innovations that come from our work with Visa.”
In a separate announcement, WEX said it is also expanding availability of its mobile fuel payments solution WEX Fleet DriverDash for fleet drivers using Shell-branded locations in the U.S. The mobile solution allows drivers to authorize transactions from within their vehicles, securing payments via biometric authentication.
The expansion of the solution for Shell locations adds about 25,000 fuel stations to the mobile tool’s network, WEX said.
“Businesses will see less downtime for fueling, fewer clumsy receipts to collect and analyze, and better transaction security, often with the chance to accrue valuable Fuel Rewards Pro points,” explained Peggy Watson, WEX senior vice president of Product and Marketing, in a statement.
