The world’s largest retailer is getting serious about making the mobile jump. Walmart customers with the retailer’s app on their phone will now be able to directly access Walmart’s Savings Catcher online receipt comparison tool.
The proprietary technology behind Savings Catcher compares competing retailer ads and reimburses shoppers via an eGift card if is charging less than Walmart. The program first piloted in seven markets this spring, since which time early one million receipts have been processed using the service, reports Mobile Commerce Daily.”
“We know that mobile plays a huge role during in-store shopping, and we’re working to give shoppers the tools to save and shop more smartly,” said Bao Nguyen, reported MCD. “Of the more than 65 percent of Walmart shoppers who have smartphone, half of them have used it in-store to help them shop. This is significant because Walmart is giving customers another reason to trust we have the lowest prices in our stores.”
Mobile customers who access the Savings Catcher tool with the app can scan the QR code on their receipt to convert it to an e-receipt on their app. By loading that receipt into the Savings Catcher, the tech will then compare prices paid to advertised prices at competitors like Target or Walgreens. If the tool finds a price discrepancy in the customer’s favor, they refund the difference in an e-gift card. The service will now be available nationwide.
