Westfield Labs – the technological branch of the Westfield Group shopping center firm– created “Dine on Time,” a mobile app that lets users skip the pesky mall lines and order their fast food through their phone.
“With the app, users can browse the menus of participating restaurants, add items to their carts and check out,” reported TechCrunch. “Before ordering, users receive an estimate for when their food will be ready and it sends a text message when it actually is ready. After that, users can either pick up their food or choose to have it delivered.”
As TechCrunch points out, this is not an entirely new concept, but Westfield created an app that caters specifically to the retailers in its malls. The app will eventually be available in new retail locations.
Food delivery options are a popular trend. Earlier this month, PYMNTS.com reported on FoodPanda netting $60 million in its most recent funding round. The money is expected to help FoodPanda expand its existing markets as well as expand.
