Wanting to keep its most critical pilots near its headquarters in Bentonville, the world’s largest retail chain this began filling same-day Internet grocery purchases at a drive-thru facility in Bentonville on Tuesday (Sept. 29).
Walmart dubbed the test “Walmart Pickup—Grocery” and said that it “continues to explore new ways to make shopping faster and more convenient by integrating its digital and physical assets.”
The trial, demoed by a video Walmart has posted, shows shoppers making online grocery orders, schedule a pickup time and then drive to the pickup location where they log in at a drive-thru terminal. Workers then load their cars. During the trial, Walmart is offering the service for free (although we’re assuming shoppers must pay for their groceries).
Shoppers who want to participate can try signing up.
