Amazon’s smart security device company Ring is introducing Video Doorbell Wired, its smallest camera solution for home protection and surveillance.
“Since day one, Ring’s focus has been to invent home security solutions that solve real customer problems. With Video Doorbell Wired, we packed the features that matter into a small, compact design, giving customers more choice when it comes to selecting the Ring Video Doorbell that best fits their needs,” Jamie Siminoff, founder and chief inventor of Ring, said in a Wednesday (Jan. 27) press release.
He added that Video Doorbell Wired is intended to be an “affordable option” for newcomers to the system and for people who want “to expand their Rings of security.”
Video Doorbell Wired features a slim design with HD video, two-way audio, live view, advanced motion detection, customizable privacy zones, and more. The Ring video doorbell enables users to see, talk to, and record anyone who comes to their doorstep. This latest tool is set to launch Feb. 24.
Acquired by Amazon for $839 million about three years ago, Ring’s Wi-Fi-enabled tools include its Neighbors social media app, which is also available to people who don’t use Ring. The app enables people to anonymously read or post content or videos regarding local crime, suspicious activity, and lost pets within 5 miles of their home. The app also alerts users to real-time 911 call data as well as content from its own news team, the release indicated.
Video Doorbell Wired connects to existing doorbell wiring and features 1080p HD video with night vision and two-way audio with noise cancellation. It also features customizable motion zones to trigger alerts in certain areas and privacy zones so users can leave out areas they don’t want to monitor.
Amazon recently unveiled its cloud-gaming platform Luna, a competitor to Google’s Stadia service, Microsoft’s xCloud and Apple’s Arcade. Luna is available on Fire TV, PCs, Macs and iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads.
