Gummy worms: check. Beverages: also check. Outrageously big flat-screen HDTV: bonus check.
This list is heading in only one direction — the couch — where hundreds of millions of Americans have been feasting on subscription video and education services for a year.
PYMNTS latest Provider Ranking of Streaming Apps leaps a few months from the last, and we find that chess pieces have moved. Who moved them? Subscribers, of course. Who moved where, and why, is addressed in the new Ranking. All we can say now is … enjoy the show.
The Top 5
Yes, Netflix is still No. 1, counting 158 million paid memberships in over 190 countries. New at No. 2 is Disney+ rising one spot from the previous Ranking as the mouse roars. YouTube is down one spot to No. 3, and Amazon’s Prime Video also drops a spot to land at No. 4, while music and podcast app Spotify tumbles one position also to land at No. 5, completing the Top 5 apps.
The Top 10
Lots happening in the lower regions of the Top 10 this time out with PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Streaming Apps, though not at No. 6, where the ad-supported Pluto TV app is holding firm.
Moving along we find streaming name brand Hulu climbing to occupy the No. 7 spot this time around, with Amazon Music right behind, also gaining a spot to land at No. 8.
Here’s a switch: out of nowhere comes the Funimation app entering the Top 10 at No. 9, and proving that overdubbing East Asian media is, quite frankly, fun.
From there’s it’s a switch to a twitch — as in the Twitch video and gaming app — retaining its seat at No. 10 and completing this edition of PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Streaming Apps.
