Instacart will be offering same-day delivery service from over 6,000 Family Dollar stores under a new partnership with the retailer.
“With this new partnership, customers now have access to same-day delivery of Family Dollar’s broad and affordable selection of household goods, pantry and baby essentials, electronics, office and school supplies, personal care items, and more in as fast as an hour,” Instacart said in a Thursday (Feb. 4) press release.
Instacart has been already providing delivery service for 275 Family Dollar stores under a pilot program since late 2020.
“Providing same-day delivery is another example of our efforts to better meet the evolving needs of our Family Dollar shoppers,” Family Dollar CEO Mike Witynski said in the press release. “We are encouraged by the initial results of our pilot stores and are pleased to expand the Instacart platform to more than 6,000 Family Dollar stores across the country.”
Customers will be able to place orders for Family Dollar through Instacart’s website or mobile app. An Instacart shopper will then pick up and deliver the order within a time frame chosen by the customer. Deliveries can be scheduled for several days out or within an hour.
While many retailers have seen business slide during the pandemic, Family Dollar has enjoyed strong sales.
“Family Dollar offers a variety of low-cost items for the entire family, and we’re proud to partner with them to offer same-day delivery nationwide,” said Instacart Vice President of Retail Chris Rogers.
Instacart provides delivery service for nearly 600 retailers and 5,500 cities throughout North America. Its services are available to approximately 85 percent of U.S. households and 70 percent of Canadian households, it said.
Instacart made news last month amid reports that it was terminating about 1,900 jobs, including those held by workers in Illinois who voted last year to join the United Foods and Commercial Workers union (UFCW).
