Edenred, a digital platform for services and payments, has gotten a controlling interest in electronic toll solution issuer Greenpass, according to a Tuesday (Feb. 22) press release.
This will give Edenred a greater foothold in that business, allowing it to spread its tech and sales capabilities more for cross-selling potential.
Per the release, Edenred has been working on developing non-fuel fleet and mobility services. The company has been expanding its Beyond Fuel strategy for years now, as it works on covering management costs related to additional services like tolls, maintenance and tax refunds.
The services are accessible through connected and multi-service solutions. According to the release, tolls account for around 10% of fleet costs and have been a complimentary service for fuel and charge offering.
Brazil has seen a market largely untapped to deal with eTolls, with only one in ten company cars equipped with toll tag technology.
Almost 500,000 vehicles in Brazil were equipped with Greenpass technology in 2021, per the release, and Edenred wants to leverage its service quality, client portfolio and sales knowledge to boost the numbers.
Greenpass also has an application programming interface (API)-enabled, cloud-based system that integrates into the platform and enriches the data.
Jean-Urbain Hubau, chief operating officer, fleet and mobility solutions at Edenred, said the idea was to offer more solutions for fleet managers.
“Greenpass has developed a technological solution that meets a real need in a market undergoing fast-paced digitalization with significant growth prospects,” he said. “With Greenpass, we’re considerably increasing our ability to address this high-potential market and bringing greater value to our existing clients through a simple, centralized experience with real-time access to vehicle data.”
PYMNTS wrote that Edenred has also worked with sunday, the multinational pay-at-table solution, to offer those solutions to Edenred customers. This comes as full-service restaurants have been bolstering their digital convenience as customers expect more frictionless convenience.
